TSE 250 R Chinese dirt bike

You can’t talk about Chinese Dirt Bikes without talking about the TSE 250 R. Considered China’s bike answer to the world. In terms of affordability and performance, this is arguably the best 2-stroke in its class.

These are somethings that people will really like, such as the 6-Speed transmission. It also has a electronic start that’s situated in the bottom of the bike.

The tank capacity is about 2.5 Gallons. The wheels are made of lightweight aluminum. The 250cc engine is sure to give the power you need.

Is buying a Chinese Dirt Bike worth it?

Chinese suppliers have, for years, fed the off-road motorcycle market with accessories like protective riding gear, gloves, handlebar grips, kick levers, stands and fuel tanks – so it came as no surprise when they began venturing into the production of dirt bikes. Quite wisely, China has not tried to take on the dominant Japanese or European manufacturers head-on but has rather chosen to penetrate the market with lower-priced options in the 50cc, 100-150cc and even 250cc segments. Many of these off-roaders may have a striking resemblance in design to Yamaha, Honda or Suzuki motorcycles, but the copy-cat tag doesn’t quite fit as the build quality is impressive.

Japanese brands such as Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki, and European ones like KTM, Husqvarna, Beta and Bultaco will set your bank balance back by at least a few thousand dollars more than Chinese makers would. For instance, a 250cc Honda or KTM costs around US$8,000 while China’s SSR Motorsport SR250S bills only up to US$3,899. While 250cc machines are usually sought out by experienced riders, 50-150cc machines are on the amateur riders’ wish-list – and that’s where China makes a mark, with prices ranging from US$500.

The majority of the players in China ensure to maintain good standards when it comes to quality. The power and handling of these bikes have not yet reached the bar set by the older brands, but they are constantly making improvements and it wouldn’t take long for them to compete in the big leagues. Availability of parts can be a cause for concern, as the supply chain infrastructure is not fully developed – so you may have to depend on the manufacturers themselves shipping you the parts, should you require them. However, with China’s overall focus on the global market, there are sufficient resources in place to that ensure you get what you require with quick turn-around times.

Finally, to put my two cents in, the Chinese motocross manufacturers are a safe bet for enthusiasts and hobbyists or those who are new to the sport and are looking to get initiated. While the performance of these bikes is currently not race-worthy, we expect the industry to ramp up their engines’ output in the coming months. These motorcycles are also a good investment for parents looking to get their children started with off-roading. Off-road exploration is a trend that’s picking up traction – for which the Chinese bikes would be ideal.

How to choose a Chinese dirt bike?

In most cases, the first thing on anyone’s mind is money. Between dirt bikes of Chinese make and Japanese or European make, the Chinese ones are cheaper – you will save at least US$4000-5000 with a Chinese bike. But how do you choose a Chinese motorcycle at the right price? A comparison between the popular Chinese brands will show that there is a price variation between the popular brands under each segment. Making a choice will then depend on your budget. For example, the TAO DB10 and DB14 are 110cc bikes that are available for about US$300 cheaper than Apollo’s 110cc DB34.

Experience and skill play a key role in the type of bike one chooses. The engine displacement, suspension and cooling system can be chosen depending on your riding levels. For beginners and kids, a 50cc engine would ensure to not hand out too much power, which may result in falls or over-throttling. A rigid suspension will give amateurs the required room to learn landing techniques, while soft suspensions are ideal for those riders who are well-accustomed to good riding postures. A liquid cooling system works well for engines that are pushed to their limits (and engines that have a high limit!). However, air-cooled engines weigh much lighter, giving riders who are getting familiar with the sport the much-needed control.

You may have noticed that most suggestions on this list are 4-stroke bikes, while a few are 2-stroke and even one electric bike. 4-stroke engines give the bikes a slower speed compared to their 2-stroke counterparts. If you are not looking to race – and high speed is not a factor for you – it would make sense to opt for a 4-stroke engine.

Keeping in mind that these bikes are intended for rough, off-road usage and will be subject to a few falls, they may require maintenance and change of spares. Once you have shortlisted a Chinese brand, it would pay to check with the manufacturers as well as your local garages on the compatible parts that can be used on these bikes. This would be a precaution more than a challenge, as most bikes utilize similar parts and are highly customizable.

The intended purpose of the bike will also help you pick out the right bike. Although Chinese brands aren’t capable yet of competing in races against foreign brands, there are still a few good 250cc and 450cc options (check out SSR Motorsports) in the Chinese markets that you can push in novice races. Riding off-road trails don’t require high speeds but rather better durability and bigger fuel capacities. Chinese bikes may not be the preferred choice for racing, but they are strong contenders for explorers and hobbyists alike.

What is the best Chinese dirt bike brand?

The Apollo is the best Chinese dirt bike brand, both the Apollo DB-X18 and the Apollo Youth are excellent machines. The brand maintains its style of making bikes with high power and braking which is perfect for me.

How do I identify a Chinese Dirt Bike?

The first thing you’d notice that there are no recognizable make or manufacturer emblems on the frame. If the emblem can’t be identified the dirt bike is most probably Chinese.

Are Chinese dirt bikes worth it?

Chinese dirt bikes are one of the most competitive in the dirt bike space. They are known for their raw power, durability and are very affordable compared to the Yamaha and Kawasaki dirt bikes. The TAO Dirt Bike remains the most popular Chinese Dirt bike.

Are these Chinese dirt bikes for Adults?

Except the ones dedicated to the kids and the ones lesser than 80cc. Most of the 150cc and above are Chinese dirt bikes meant for adults.
