How do Keyless Door Locks Work?

A keyless door lock is a type of security system that uses a combination of RFID (radio-frequency identification) and digital codes to allow access to the building.

The user enters their code into a keypad or remote control, which then sends this information wirelessly to the lock.

Once approved by the lock, the user can start entering their PIN number or simply push open the door with their hand.

There are several benefits associated with keyless locks over traditional mechanical keys: they’re more secure since no physical keys are required; they’re easier to use since there’s no need for training on how to operate them; and they’re environmentally friendly since there is minimal use of paper or batteries.

What are the types of Door Locks?

There are numerous types of door locks that suit your needs.

Numbered Door Locks

One of my personal favourites. The Numbered Door locks require a numbered password to open the door. This is the best door lock for Airbnb homes. You don’t need to be personally present to open the door and the numbered password can be changed as well.

Bluetooth Smart Locks

Bluetooth Smart Locks use a Bluetooth connection to open the door. The smart lock can be connected to your phone via Bluetooth and voila!

Access Card Door Locks

You also have access card door locks. You can make numerous cards with the same access for the same door. It’s easier to store compared to a key.

App Smart Locks

There are smart locks that can be used remotely. Where you can remotely open your door with the help of Wifi and the smart lock opens.

All in One Locks

There are also locks that have all the features that includes access cards, numbered passwords, the traditional key etc.

Can Bluetooth Locks be Hacked?

Yes! Bluetooth locks can be certainly hacked and they aren’t impenetrable.

There are various tools and techniques to hack a smart lock. They cannot be done by your average person, as it requires some expertise. Some reports suggest that most of the Bluetooth smart locks can be hacked.

The saving grace is most people aren’t getting hacked on a regular basis. Unless you are a celebrity or a very important person. The same way locks can be broken or fake keys can be made, it’s the same with Bluetooth smart locks.

The types of keyless door locks are fingerprint locks, numbered locks, app access locks, RFID locks among other.

How to choose a good keyless door lock?

When selecting the best keyless door lock from China, it is essential to consider several factors to ensure you make an informed decision. These factors include:

  • Security Features: Look for keyless door locks that offer robust security features such as advanced encryption, tamper alarms, and built-in sensors. Additionally, consider locks with multiple authentication methods like PIN codes, biometric recognition (fingerprint or facial recognition), or RFID cards for added security layers.
  • Quality and Durability: Opt for keyless door locks made from high-quality materials like stainless steel or reinforced alloys. Ensure that the lock is sturdy and durable enough to withstand frequent use, varying weather conditions, and potential tampering.
  • Compatibility: Check the compatibility of the keyless door lock with your existing door hardware. Consider whether it is suitable for the type of door you have, such as wooden, metal, or glass doors. Additionally, verify if the lock is compatible with smart home systems or mobile applications if you desire integration.
  • Ease of Installation: Look for keyless door locks that offer straightforward installation procedures. Ideally, choose locks that can be easily installed without requiring professional assistance or significant modifications to your door.
  • User-Friendly Interface: Ensure the keyless door lock has an intuitive interface that is easy to navigate. Features like backlit keypads or LED indicators can enhance user experience, particularly in low-light conditions.
  • Power Options: Consider the power source of the keyless door lock. Some locks rely on batteries, while others may have the option for hardwired connections. Choose a lock that suits your preferences and provides backup options in case of power outages.
  • Connectivity and Remote Access: If you desire remote access or smart functionalities, select keyless door locks that offer connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or Z-Wave. These features allow you to control and monitor your lock remotely using mobile apps or integrate it into your smart home ecosystem.
  • Brand Reputation and Certifications: Research the reputation of the manufacturer and ensure they have a track record of producing reliable and secure locks. Look for certifications such as ISO or ANSI/BHMA to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Warranty and Support: Check the warranty period offered by the manufacturer and the availability of customer support services. A reputable brand should provide a reasonable warranty and responsive support channels to address any issues that may arise.

What is the best security lock for a front door?

My pick would be numbered locks. Numbered locks cannot be hacked per se because they don’t need to use the internet or they don’t need to use Bluetooth or Wifi or any of those things. Numbered locks require a 8-numbered password which cannot be brute forced unless the person has years of time in their hands. For this reason, my pick would be numbered locks!
